10 out of 10!

I am so so so pleased! Like I said yesterday, I was planning to do my 10 miler today and I DID! I got it done and it felt pretty good. I tackled some insane hills, INSANE HILLS. But yayayayayay! Now I don’t have to worry about it this weekend. I can enjoy judging and […]

DNA DNA DNA

Ciao

This is what I am doing as a break from studying biology for my test on Friday! I am so exhausted.

I haven’t worked out today and I don’t think I am going to! I did have 5 cookies today though. #winning

Our test this Friday is over: mitosis, meiosis, DNA structure and function, DNA replication, DNA transcription, RNA translation, control of gene expression, and cancer. It’s not much material, but it is a crap ton of details.

Like, in translation. The small subunit of a ribosome binds to the mRNA transcript where it will slide down the transcript until it finds the start codon AUG which codes for the amino acid methionine. There, an initiator tRNA will hydrogen bond to the mRNA with the ribosome subunit. The large ribosomal subunit follows suit with the rest of the pieces {E, P, and A sites} for translation to occur.

😀

Help. I’m dying of bio overload. I need coffee. A venti iced soy latte, to be exact.

I will make it through!

On the brightside, my professor canceled class for next Wednesday which means that if chem does get canceled, I can be en route home by 9 am! 😀

In a little bit I am going to head to Target to pick up some stuff I need and keep slacking off and procrastinating.

I did do a bunch of calculus homework though! {But it’s all due tomorrow and I only did a bunch because I procrastinated a bunch…}

Tomorrow I think I’m going to attempt my 10 miler. I feel exhausted right now so it’s hard to feel motivated, but maybe tomorrow morning I will wake up refreshed and ready to runnnnn.

Random note: I got a French Press this weekend and I’ve used it a few times already! The first times I added milk to my coffee which was dumbbbb. Today I had coffee via the press twice and both times I drank it black! It wasn’t bitter or anything and it was delicious! I don’t know if it’s the press or the fact that I bought organic coffee beans which made it so good.

I may just make another cup of coffee to accomplish more studying tonight!

Anywho, I’m going to head to Target soon, and I may even take a 20 minute power nap!

Ciao,

Juliana

My Tuesday

Well hello hello!

Sadly, my Tuesday is not over just yet! I have one more class to go at 5 {the worst class ever! might I add} but then I get to go home to my apartment!

I am so hungry! I ate my lunch really early and I had a pineapple slice earlier, but it’s going to be a looooong couple of hours until I can make dinner. On the bright side, I already know what I am going to have and it is quick and awesome!

turkey grilled cheese with greens & tomato bisque soup ❤ yum!

Today’s gone pretty well though! I got dressed thinking it was 70 degrees out like yesterday morning, but it was 50!! However, the sun has come out and it has warmed up and it feels like spring!

Don’t get me wrong… I am ridiculously excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but this weather makes me want to go camping and swimming and eat ice cream! ;]

Anyway, because it’s so beautiful outside, I went on a short 2.25 mile run around campus! I wore my cool GPS watch that my dad gave me and I felt so official!

20131119-162129.jpg

I preceded to come back to Gregory and hop on an elliptical for 30 minutes! I did a HIIT elliptical workout. I was obsessed with those at the beginning of this summer, so it was like déjà vu for me! Haha! Then I did 24 assisted pull ups. My goal is to be able to do real pull ups by the end of summer 2014. They’re hard! I went on to do 16 tricep extensions @ 20#. Today’s workout was more like my normal Thursday ones!

However, because I’m going home this weekend to judge & go to what will be a B.E.A.utiful wedding, I think I am going to tackle my long run on Thursday morning! :]

I have TEN more days of this semester until finals! Hallelujah! There are so many good things to come this winter! 🙂

Alrighty, I’m typing this on my iPad, so if there are any considerable grammatical errors, then OH WELLLLLLL ;]

Wish me luck surviving through computing today!

-Juliana

Random random random!

Helllloooo! :]

I’m going home today! I survived this week, thank goodness!

I woke up at 5:37 and I had eaten breakfast and was dressed and ready by 6:15… I was up before my alarm and I was super quick… Can you tell I’m excited about today?! Haha!

I have class until 12 and then I’m driving home! ❤

Tonight, Alex, Erica, Blake, and myself are all going to see Thor 2. I’m very excited because I’ve heard it’s good! And so far, all the Marvel movies have been good!

Also, after today, there are 2.5 weeks of the semester left! :O :O :O :O

Well, then there are finals… But at least there will be no class! Just lots of coffee and stress and tears and studying… Hahahahaha

Anyway, I made it my goal to get a bunch of homework done this week so that I could enjoy my weekend without having to worry about rushing home Sunday night to get it all done. I did it, too! I have some bio reading and some chem, but that may take me all of an hour and I’m sure Alex wouldn’t mind chilling in Starbucks… #IHope! ;]

To celebrate my excitement of today, I am wearing my favorite outfit. It sounds silly, but everything feels great today! My crazy awesome sweater I got, my new dark jeans, and fuzzy grey boots {yes, I am that girl!}

The next four weekends are going to be so good :] ❤

There’s really no point to this post, I just have 20 minutes to kill so I am typing away! Hahaha

So, I’ve decided that if I get a job this summer, I’m going to go local/organic. Not 100%. But when I buy my produce, I think I’ll stick to local farmers markets. Yay environmental stability and FRESH food! I ❤ my fruits and vegetables. Another thing: I’ve decided that when I run out of bread and oatmeal and stuff, I am NOT going to get more. I’m going to try-out going a little bit wheat-free… I’ve read a lot about people that do that and they feel way better because by eliminating wheat, they are eliminating empty carbs and quite a bit of sugars.. Hmmmm… I like to try things out, so why not?!

Here’s another random thing. A couple years ago, my dad took us kids to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra show one Christmastime. It was good! It’s really cool how they combine traditional orchestra and electric guitars! ;] The only thing is, it was two hours long! And it started kind of late! If you know me, you know I am so much more of a morning person. It takes quite a bit to get me to happily stay up late! —– I only brought this up because I have Christmas Pandora on and one of their songs started playing!

Another random tidbit: Tomorrow is my 10 mile run! 😀 HOLLLAAAA. Sabrina and I did 1/2 a mile of sprints yesterday… 8×100 on the outdoor track. It was c-c-c-cold! But it was fun because my pants were falling down and she has such longer legs that I felt like an awkward giraffe trying to keep up with her. But, my BME test is done. What’s done is done. It was HARD! Like, much harder than the practice tests {Dr. Y is a bootyhole} but I tried my best and now we can only see…

Alright, I need to go pack my stuff in the car!

Peace out! 🙂

Love,

Juliana

three things.

BME programming assignment #2

UGS research paper

BME midterm #2

One down and two to go!

The research paper is due tomorrow and I am actually procrastinating by writing this, but I just don’t know how to write the darn paper! Bleh. I enjoy writing, but the topic I picked is BORING.

Anyway, this week is extremely stressful because I HAVE to do well on that midterm and the research paper has to be about 7 pages long… And I have the intro paragraph and that’s it.

The good news is I HAVE KNOCKED ONE THING OFF THE LIST! That program was stressing me out to the max. I cried while randomly walking around campus like 6 times today because I was so freaking frustrated. But I did it 🙂

The research paper isn’t really stressful, it’s just going to be such a pain to write! I may need to get a pot of coffee going for that… Haha!

My motivation to get through this week is that I am going HOME! ❤

I love going home. Really, I do. I love the people and even the drive! Instead of going straight down 290, I’ve found that from my apartment it is faster to take 21 to 71 to 290. It’s shorter, faster, and more scenic {because it takes me right next to Bastrop State Park!}

These last couple weeks have been full of tests and almost end of the semester anxiety. So I have found that it feels a little easier if I write down all the big things I have to tackle and watch them get checked off as I accomplish them. It’s always a big weight off my shoulders when I finally can scratch the last major obstacle off of my desk calendar and planner!

Coffee definitely helps me get through the crazy weeks. Today, Erica tweeted me a $5 Starbucks gift card through their new “tweet a coffee” program! I already spent it… Haha! On a tall, skinny, salted caramel mocha. It was pretty good! The Starbucks I went to was out of caramel brulee syrup, but the SCM was a nice substitute!

In other news, I’m skipping my calc discussion tomorrow to sleep in and do my calc homework at home. I feel like I’ve said this a thousand times, but the discussion is just not helpful for me whatsoever!

However, I am going to go to my 9:30 BME discussion so that I can kick my midterm right in the jugular.

Tomorrow is also I casual training run. I’m thinking 5 miles after I get out of BME at 6:15. Last week I did that and it started to rain a little and I felt so hardcore. Haha! I need new headphones though 😦 One of the earbuds is broken, so it’s a little harder to get in the zone when music is only blaring in one ear!

Oh well! I shall survive!

Now I need to go fill up my water bottle and crack down on this research paper {again, BLEH!}

Talk to you guys later!

-Juliana

Running update.

Heyyyoo.

I am writing this to you as I am finishing my coffee. I already ran 9 miles and demolished a big bowl of oatmeal {rolled oats, PB, PB2 (bleh), chia seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin spice, 1/2 banana!} As soon as I finish this post I am taking a shower and hopefully taking a nap.

Let’s talk about running.

Today was my nine mile long run and it went pretty well. Except for the fact that I was SO SLOW. I don’t get it! Sometimes I’ll run 4 miles faster than my average pace, but then as soon as I hit the road for a long run I keep a slow but steady pace. It drives me nuts. Sabrina and I discussed it and she said it’s probably a mix of hydration and fatigue and stuff which makes sense.

Last night I went on a freaking awesome grocery shopping trip. I loaded my pantry up with wholesome foods and I am so ready for the week! One thing that I got was a PowerGel {strawberry banana flavored!} Last time I had one was during my first half marathon in Nov. 2011 and I spit it out into my hand because the texture was sick nasty. However, lately during my longer runs, I tend to get a little drained a little after half way because I’m already tired and I start to get hungry, so I figured I would try the gu again! I probably only used about 1/3 of it, but it really did help. Even if it was psychological. I felt more energized and powerful.

Next, let’s talk about my knees 😦 For some reason, I’ve been getting serious pain in my knees. But like smack dab in the middle of my knees. After some extensive internet research, I think that it’s just time for new running shoes. I’ve had these ones since training for the half in Nov. 2011 so I think they’ve stopped absorbing shock! Also, I get some ankle pain when I’m first starting, but it tends to numb away about 2 miles in. Any experts out there that can help me figure out this knee issue? It’s not on the sides or the back of the knee, but right in the middle, as if where my knee bends is squeaky or unoiled like the Tin Man!

I also think I am going to invest in a water belt soon! I want one of the ones with the little pods. I jump for joy and sprint to a water fountain almost every time I see one when I’m running. I am a thirsty runner and today the Gu just made me thirstier!

Alright, I am tired and I need to shower, so I will talk to you guys later! :]

Here’s my pre-run selfie from this morning.

November Love.

November is my favorite month.

Okay, so maybe I say that about every month, but I just love the exciting things that each month brings!

However, I thought that in the spirit of November beginning, I would write about things I love about November! :]

I love:

The seasonal Starbucks drinks! {Caramel Brulee Lattes & Gingebread Lattes!}

The start of the holiday season!

The last few weeks of the semester!

The anticipation for Thanksgiving & the 5 mile run that Erica and I are doing Thanksgiving morning!

The cooler weather ❤

The fact that I can listen to Christmas music without getting COMPLETELY judged! ;]

Also, the fact that Christmas decorations are in stores!

The warm, delicious, comforting fall foods.

Daylight Savings :]

Long sleeve t-shirts!

Playing outside without sweating {unless I’m running or working out, of course!}

2013 at its near end and making way for 2014 :]

blob.

Here’s what I do want to do today:

1. Finish studying chem.

2. Go on a run.

3. Make hot chocolate {and drink it!}

4. Blast Christmas music & decorate for Christmas.

5. Buy a little Christmas tree.

6. Cook a nice dinner to have with friends and family.

7. Play in some snow.

8. Open a surprise present.

Sadly, here’s what I have to do today:

1. Keep studying for chem.

2. 8 am calc discussion.

3. 9:30 computing discussion.

4. 12:30 UGS.

5. RUN {thank goodness!}

6. 5 pm computing

7. Wait for the bus.

8. Cook a dinner for myself 😦

Wish me luck.

As the semester approaches its end, my motivation dwindles as well.
