Finals.

Well hey.

I’ve been crazy busy lately. Yesterday was the last day of classes for the semester and now it’s time for finals. Lucky for me, I only have one on Thursday. Unfortunately, it’s OChem. Soooo the next couple of days of my life will be dedicated to filling my brain to the brim with reaction mechanisms.

This past week I had three exams: nutrition lab final (I got a 92!), sociology exam #4 (grades aren’t up), and NTR 312 exam #3 (I got an 84). I was studying so much that I barely even ran this week. Yeah, it was crazy.

I am exhausted. I’m taking today off from studying completely so that I can go watch one of my favorite homegirls KILL IT at her half marathon today! Then I work a midshift tomorrow, followed by a 10 miler, and the the studying extravaganza begins. Good vibes and coffee are always welcome. 😉

The apartment is decorated for Christmas! We have a small, but real, Christmas tree and tinsel and stockings and lights and a bowl of mini candy canes. Oh, and on Wednesday I took a picture with Santa on campus. It was hilarious, but that may have been because I was exhausted and stressed to the max.

I leave for Portland in 9 days and I am so so pumped. The only thing I really have planned is that I’m going to rent a bike to get around the city! I may or may not go bungee jumping off a bridge while I’m there. 🙂

Geez I cannot believe this semester is over! Last fall was pretty rough and unpleasant for me, so it felt like it lasted forever, but this year it flew by! I loved my classes and I’m really going to miss my assistant position. Nonetheless, I went through the semester with no regrets and I cannot wait to see what the spring brings!

Not to mention, this 5 week winter break will be niiiiiice. I have a week off in January for an adventure, but I’m not sure what I’ll do yet. Ideas? I’m thinking maybe a Louisiana trip because it’s one of the closest states. Or maybe New Mexico? Or even the Grand Canyon in Arizona! Where should I go?! East or West?!

Anyway, sorry this post has been all over the place. Life has been a bit hectic lately, but it’s been good!

Also, in regards to everything that has been happening in America lately… I’m sure that if you know me well you know I have my own stance on everything. But when it boils down to it, a human life is a human life. And in my opinion, all lives should be valued equally. NO life should ever be lost due to brutality or negligence. I’ll leave you with this to think about:

Endorphin High!

Yo wazzup! Remember that time I was freaking out about my running? 😉 Well, I mentioned that I should pay more attention to my mile splits and blah blah blah.

Today I went on a run and did exactly the opposite. I didn’t track it whatsoever. I just listened to the music on my phone. Not even my running playlist! It was so amazing.

Seriously it reminded me why I love running so much ❤

The weather was perfect and my legs felt so fresh! I got pretty hungry about halfway through but I managed.

Also, I live in Austin and I was passing by ACL while Iggy Azalea was performing and it was SO AWESOME. It put a huge smile on my face!

I ended up running 10.5 miles when I thought that I had maybe done 9!

Then I ate this dinner again while typing this! 🙂

It’s been a ridiculously good day.

Remember that bucket list? I’ve been knocking things off and not blogging about them. Maybe I’ll catch up this week?

Anyway, I knocked one off today. The one that has been on every bucket list I’ve ever written: go bungee jumping.

My brother and I drove three hours to Dallas just to do this. He ended up jumping too and it was so worth it.

There are seriously no words to describe it.
I spent so much time trying to imagine what it’d be like once I got up there and I was still so blown away.
It was beautiful and amazing and terrifying and high and windy and exhilarating and freeing.
I knew that if I second guessed for even a moment I may panic, so the jumpmaster counted to three and I went.
I would do it a thousand more times.
People, I’ve been afraid of heights my whole life. It feels so amazing to punch that fear in the kidneys.

Any of my friends/family reading this that has ever had an inkling of desire to bungee jump: I WILL GO WITH YOU. And we will laugh the fear of it in the face.

Monday Mumblings

Here’s a short list of things that make me oh so very happy:

1. Running
I know what you’re thinking: “Juliana, tell us something we don’t know.” Haha, but it really does make me so so joyful!

2. My job
Especially when it just so happens to involve some running! Yesterday, Erica, some of the lovely ladies I work with and myself ran the Autism Speaks 8K! In case you were wondering, that’s ~4.86 miles. It was a double loop and it had two killer hills. Fo real. Anyway, it was majorly fun! My boss made us shirts to wear! The front said “CBTL Team SOLA”

3. Improvement
That race yesterday? I got 3rd in my age group! My total time was 42:10 and my average mile pace was 8:30. I started off at around 8:08 but once I hit the hills, I had to cool it down a bit. Nonetheless, I was so so happy. A year ago, I couldn’t even dream of running a sub 10 minute mile. I couldn’t even fathom running over 2 miles either! And yet, here I am today. Hard work, passion, discipline, and joy all came together and made me stronger. Heck, I have a 19 miler planned for Wednesday! Which brings me to number…

4. My Birthday
I turn 19 on Wednesday!! May 28, 1995: the day my parents became the luckiest people ever. 😉 Haha! First thing on my birthday docket is to run 19 miles in celebration and gratitude of 19 years of life! WAHOOOOOOO!

Man, I’ve been waaaay off my blogging mojo lately. I think that I did so much school work this semester that my brain is in complete summer mode and doesn’t want to do anything that requires my attention for more than five minutes.

With that being said, I have watched a lotttttt of Bones on Netflix lately. Whatevs. I deserve it!

Also, I feel like I need to point out that there are waaaaay more than four things in my life that make me happy. Actually, it’s pretty easy to get me happy or excited about anything!

Hi, I’m alive!

I’ve just been doing ALL THE THINGS and sitting down to write a blog post hasn’t been one of them.

I’ve been eating, training, biking, running, swimming, working, adventuring, reuniting with friends, laughing, rock climbing, cleaning, driving, planning, relaxing, sleeping, cooking, grocery shopping, yoga-ing, and so so so much more!

I’ll hopefully be back soon with something of more depth!

Wedneszzzzzz.

Hey everyone! Happy Hump Day!

I’m writing this post as a desperate attempt to fight off the urge to make coffee… I really want to wean myself off of caffeine this summer, but I woke up so early this morning and had an awesome workout and I’m starting to feel pretty sleepy…

And I already took a 40 minute nap.

Hey, a sista’s gotta do what a sista’s gotta do.

But good news… I finished my literature essay! I woke up this morning already planning on starting, finishing, and turning it in today. And it’s not even due until Saturday!
I didn’t want to procrastinate because I was hating the way it was sitting on my shoulders… It was weird to have to actually do something instead if just studying for finals, so I’m glad I got it out of the way.

1250 words and 2.5 hours of sitting on my bootay and I got it done! Whoo!
Now I just have a biology final Saturday afternoon and a chemistry final Tuesday morning and I am freeeeee! Sweet, sweet summertime is so close.

After I finished I headed to Gregory Gym to celebrate! [I’m also feeling a track workout later tonight!]
I did:
1 mile treadmill warm up – This actually kind of turned into a tempo run. It was super fun and I’m thinking that on extremely hot days this summer I’ll do longer ones!
15 push ups
30 squats – With an 11# medicine ball!
1 minute plank
2×15 rows – with 10# dumbells
10 static lunges – each leg with 11# medicine ball
10 jump lunges – hurts soooo good.
10 side planks curls – each side. 7# dumbell.
5 burpees – with a 5 second push up hold
25 tricep dips
20 plank jacks
10 tucks jumps
20 hip bridges (?) – basically just pelvic thrusting the air. With 10# plate.

Then I came home reaaaal sweaty, made lunch, lounged around, fell asleep, had some Cheerios with almond milk, and now I’m here!

I could go get some more groceries since I go through my produce so quickly, but I’m sick of spending money and I really am so so tired.

And this sun just came out! It’s been dreary all day. But it is pretty humid out there… Hmm, we shall see! Maybe I’ll just spend more time resting so that tonight’s sprints are super energized!

My Fav Foods: Because You Need to Know.

As I’m killing time before my run (letting my lunch digest), I mentally attempted to formulate a Top 10 Favorite Foods list… I completely failed. If you read my twitter, you’ll see me professing my love for random foods on a pretty daily basis!

What can I say? I love all foods. All foods are bae. Yes, BAE. As a runner and nutrition major, food is almost constantly on my mind. And I’m hungry a lot. And I eat a lot more than people expect. Also, I have a bad habit of inhaling my food sometimes. But that doesn’t mean that I’m not enjoying every single piece! 😉

HAHAHA, but without further adieu, here’s a list of the foods that popped into my head when trying to make the Top 10 list:

An Unexpected Tuesday Ten

Howdy y’all! ; )

Guess what? I’m typing this up on a Mac right now!! Haha, the office in my apartment complex has one so I decided to use it.

Anyway, on to the point of this post!

Today, I ran an unexpected ten miles!

I have a test tonight and I’m not schedule to work until Friday, so I have a lot of free time this week. I decided to take advantage of that and make it a peak training week.

Nonetheless, when I headed out for my run today, I was planning to do 7 or maybe 8 miles. 

Eventually though, I got in the groove and felt like I was gliding (I love that feeling) so I just kept going!

The weather is lower 70s, sunny, and very very windy. There were a few moments that I thought I was going to be blown over! But I persevered : )

I finally checked my Nike app to see that I had gone 7.56 miles! I was close to home and could’ve stopped, but I thought “hey, in math class, that would round to 10, so I’m going to do 10!”

My mind works in silly ways. ; D

When I got home, I was so hot and thirsty! I had carried my Camelbak handheld with me, but warm water is NOT refreshing when you’re getting pretty hot!

I was (and still am) craving froyo in a major way. Maybe I can rope someone into going with me…

Anyway, I stretched, made myself a PB+J, took a shower, made a real dinner of eggs, spinach, salsa, avocado and then baby carrots with hummus. T’was scrumptious!

Pretty soon I am going to head to campus to cram a bit more and then tackle that chemistry test!

Our last test was the day after I had been broken up with… Sooo as you can imagine, my head was not in a good place and I did pretty poorly on the test.

Lucky for me, my prof drops the lowest test grade, and I’m coming at this one with vengeance! ;]

Now I’m just debating whether or not that froyo is going to happen… {Sabrina and Mathew could come… It’d be my treat! Haha!}

College No More

Hey!

Surprised/confused/indifferent about the title?

I shall explain.

I’m not going to college anymore.

What?!

Totally kidding. Kind of. Tomorrow I was supposed to have classes from 8-11, but now the university is closed until noon! Why? Because of wintery weather. Yeah. Not snow. Not ice. Just coldness.

This may seem kind of surprising, but I want to go to school!

There have already been so many cancelled classes this semester because of the cold, but I want to learn! I actually enjoy my classes and what I’m learning… Sure, the 8 a.m.s suck, but I can deal.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about having the morning to get tons of homework done lounge around. But it’s just kind of frustrating. Yeah, the cold is pretty unbearable, but once you’re inside a lecture hall it is warm and toasty!

Also, I’m scheduled to work tomorrow afternoon because I was supposed to have classes in the morning. So I have to drive home late tomorrow. When in all actuality, I could’ve worked in the morning! #frustration 

Oh well! Life goes on.

In other news:

I’m going home this weekend! I’m bringing my bike so that I can go on a long training ride on Saturday. And then on Sunday, Erica and I are running 9 miles together! Wahooooo!

Although a week from Sunday is my half marathon… Taper? What taper? ;]

Wow, I feel completely pooped. I’ve been working hard, training hard, and studying hard. That leaves you completely wiped, I guess! But what’s ridiculous is that I know that the second I get into bed, I won’t feel as tired anymore!

Urghhhh.

Alrighty, time for me to read some blogs and maybe hopefully possibly get some school work done!
